Effective Internet Marketing Strategy and Technique Through Experiments, Measurement and Audit

Twitter Clients

Published on April 10th, 2009 by Jeremy Chatfield

My use of Twitter has increased. I’m using an iPhone with several clients while I work out which I like best, and a browser, and the browser user interface sucks compared with the desktop clients and iPhone apps. So I want a Twitter desktop client…

The big ones, according to TwitStat, are TweetDeck and Twhirl. Both Adobe AIR applications. Neither of them has a proper Publisher ID and both want Unrestricted access to my machine. I’m not installing unidentified applications with unrestricted access. Too easy to transform to malware.

Anyone know of a Twitter desktop client for the Mac, with an identified publisher certification of reasonable security, and limitations on access to my system? Or will Twitter stay a mobile phone application for me, where I can restrict the access to sensitive resources?

To early to know, but put this on your radar:

Looks nice - I’ve Tweeted the developer to ask if this can operate at a lower security level than “steal my system, please” (Mike Rundle - http://twitter.com/mike9r)

Yes indeed, too early to know that. Maybe Twitter will update with the one you wanted but maybe not too soon. Somehow it’s not as perfect as everyone think it is right now, the thing is that it’s too popular this days.. Just like Facebook and Myspace not too long ago. It’s time will end later just like any other and another one will arise :).

Twitter desktop clients are third party applications, not developed by Twitter, for the most part. FaceBook has continued to increase in growth and influence, long past the point where it was hailed as only of interest to geeks and marketing staff; Twitter offers a new product delivery service, and new messaging options for many organisations, including charities as well as businesses.

I think that Twitter is still many years away from peak usage - unless something markedly better emerges in the next year or so!
