This blog is protected by Akismet. It rejects better than 99% of all spam without any help from me :)
I will reject blatantly self promotional postings. See Google’s blog article about comment spam.. Astonishing as it may seem, the obvious way to promote your product and site (dropping a keyword laden name and URL, with “ur site is gr8, thx mate’) is going to be less effective than just commenting like a real person.
I will reject off-topic postings - but usually reply personally, if you seem to have a problem and that’s just the wrong place to air it.
I’m extremely impressed with the quality of comments that pass Akismet and the ‘is it a keyword’ test. Most are really well informed, and come from people deep in the industry. Well done, guys, and thanks!
If you want your site referenced, then say something substantive - other people manage to do so, and if you are worthwhile visiting for readers of this blog, you’ll have *something* interesting to say, I’m sure!
The most interesting thing about comments here, is which articles receive spam comments, the volume per article, and what the spam is about. It’s hugely educational in terms of understanding the shifting flows of what’s in fashion for spamming. I also hadn’t realised just how many types of porn and off-label pharmaceuticals there were. I get to stay abreast of the latest in financial services and US cars, too, I suppose. :)
Updates
Heavily revised in the light of a comment below. This is less frightening than the earlier edit. A bit.

Damn, you making me scared to place a comment. And I’m a real reader.

Hi James - you’ll be intrigued to hear that this page is the least visited, according to FeedBurner. The main visitors to this page are robots leaving blog spam. I thought it was pretty safe to vent spleen here. You’re right. This rant is oriented towards people who won’t read it, or care.
Revision coming up. :)

Wow, I posted my first comment before reading this, bad me. I like the comment policy, I hope to add more to your discussions. Great outlook, I make it a best practice to break Google AdWord’s “best practices” often. It improves Conversions!
